Tanjiro Kamado is the main protagonist of the anime series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. He first appears in the initial episode, "Cruelty."

Tanjiro begins as a kind and hardworking young boy, the eldest son of a charcoal seller. His life takes a tragic turn when he returns home to find his family slaughtered by a demon, with his younger sister Nezuko transformed into one herself.

Driven by the desire to avenge his family and find a way to turn Nezuko back into a human, Tanjiro embarks on a perilous journey to become a demon slayer. He trains rigorously under former Water Pillar Sakonji Urokodaki, mastering Water Breathing techniques.

Throughout his adventures, Tanjiro displays unwavering compassion and determination. He confronts numerous powerful demons, forms strong bonds with fellow demon slayers, and constantly strives to protect the innocent. His inherent kindness extends even to his enemies, often showing them empathy even in their final moments.
